Pre-service spoken announcements for newcomers to Evensong

28th September 2018

ChoralEvensong.org has written an pre-service announcement that clarifies things like when to stand and sit, how to use the hymnbooks, and acknowledges the unusual 16th-century language they are about to hear. Also, some non-confessional evensongs can be defined as 'Evensong', whereas others, perhaps on Thursdays and Sundays, can be 'Solemn Evensong with Confession'.

Old Testament Readings - Potential Introductory Explanations

2nd July 2018

Quite a few of the Old Testament readings are often rather obscure, “cannanites, sidonians etc", which has the effect of making evensong less user-friendly. It would be good to know the backstory to readings like this so that they are more comprehensible. How can we achieve this?

17th January 2017

A new choir has been started in London which not only sings Evensong exclusively, but is non-professional and changes its membership from service to service. It's called the East London Evensong Choir, and ChoralEvensong.org's Guy Hayward had the chance to ask Jonathan Pease, the choir's creator, a few questions about what he's trying to do...

Attending Evensong on Anniversaries

17th April 2016

Why attend Evensong on any particular day? Currently, most people go to Evensong primarily for reasons revolving around their schedule, mood, or the music list.
