St Laurence’s celebrated its Patronal Festival with a warmly received sung Evensong, the first for many years. Afternoon teas with prosecco were served from early afternoon and even walkers passing along the 1066 footpath joined the festivities. A grant helped make the occasion possible and encouraged choir and congregation alike to revive the tradition.

Local organist Stephen Page led the music and prepared the choir in advance, supported by the Searcy family who sourced music and sang. Once the versicles, responses and psalm pointing settled in, the choir gave a confident lead. Visitors from neighbouring churches joined the celebration, and the church was brightened by a vibrant flower display and a hand painted banner.

The event was joyful and affirming, and there is a strong desire not to let so many years pass before the next Evensong.
