St Michael and All Angels marked Michaelmas with a vibrant Choral Evensong that filled the church with more than one hundred and twenty worshippers. Music was offered by the superb Sherborne Chamber Choir, accompanied by Stephen Taylor-Davies, with a programme that included Bruckner’s Locus Iste, Julian Dams’s Preces and Responses, Gibbons’s Short Service and Mendelssohn’s Verleih uns Frieden. The twenty singers more than filled the choir stalls and brought real richness to the liturgy.

A lively reception followed, with abundant homemade canapés and modest wine enjoyed in a warm, bustling atmosphere. The evening provided a memorable conclusion to the patronal festival and the parish expressed deep gratitude for the grant that helped make the celebration possible.
