Anglican Church Music - this website gives lists of links to the websites of Cathedrals, Churches, and College Chapels, some of which are outside Great Britain in countries as far-flung as America, Australia and South Africa. It also has a useful reference list for understanding the details of the different kinds of church services, and musical items within them, different composers, publishers, organists and organ builders.

Societies, Trusts and Associations

Friends of Cathedral Music Trust - under the ‘Find Cathedrals’ toolbar option you will find information on all church music services (not just Evensong) in the main Cathedrals, Greater Churches and College Chapels in Great Britain. Some of the details are not up-to-date, so do check individual websites and music lists before making your trip.

The Prayer Book Society - the PBS website offers a similar postcode finder facility to www.choralevensong.org, and gives details of all known churches offering various ‘Book of Common Prayer’ services. These churches do not always have choirs, or do Evensong, and, again, always check details prior to going because the website may be out-of-date. The PBS website also serves as a useful introduction to the Book of Common Prayer, from which Evensong came, as does this BBC Radio 4 episode by Quentin Letts.

The Association of English Cathedrals - the representative body for English Anglican cathedrals. It promotes their role and encourages cathedrals to share best practice and information.

The Incorporated Guild of Church Musicians (founded 1888) as the Church Choir Guild. The foundation patrons were Archbishop Frederick Temple and Sir George Elvey, organist of St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Church Music Society (founded 1906) strives always to sustain the Church’s wonderful musical heritage.

The Society of Saint Gregory (founded 1929) is the national society for music in the Roman Catholic Church in the Britain and Ireland.

The Federation of Cathedral Old Choristers’ Associations consists of old chorister associations from cathedrals throughout Britain, Ireland and New Zealand.

The Incorporated Association of Organists (founded 1916) is the umbrella organisation for some 90 affiliated organists’ associations and individual members throughout the United Kingdom and internationally.
